From the Hip Photo is a Stapleton born-and-raised business. I recently had the privilege of speaking with Danny de Zayas one of the founders of From the Hip Photo.

Some things you may not know about From the Hip Photo;

  • They are the official photographers for the Stanley Marketplace project. They have been chronicling the redevelopment of the site for over two years and have incredible images to show for it.
  • From the Hip Photo is the preferred photographers for The Hangar. The Hangar is the 10,000+ sq. ft. event space located next door to From the Hip’s location in the Marketplace.
  • From the Hip is also a Stapleton born-and-raised business approaching their 9th birthday as a company. All nine years have been spent right here in the Stapleton community.
  • Giving back to the neighborhood is part of From the Hip Photo’s commitment to their home town. They are the pro-bono photography partners for local non-profits including Brent’s Place as well as arts and cultural organizations such as Nerd Nite, The Narrators, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

From the Hip Photo continues its commitment to the community it serves through its green practices. They are eco-conscious and driven by sustainability. Their studio is solar powered, meaning everything from the retouching work to the website updates are powered by a renewable, truly clean energy source. Even better: they generate more power than they use. Below is a picture of their solar panels! You can see everything they do to help the planet on their website.

While you are on the site you should also visit their blog. One of my favorites is the DIY Wedding Details showcasing ideas from real Colorado weddings. How can you not love a blog that recommends s’mores! We definitely want s’more of these sweet sentiments! Remember, to tell you guests where all the delicious treats and fun activities are with cute, personality-filled signs.” You can see the community in every aspect of From the Hip’s business.

Danny shared how thrilled they are about all the events they have already begun photographing at The Hangar and that they are looking forward to being there for hundreds of special occasions over the months and years ahead.

I asked Danny why they wanted to be a part of the Marketplace. He told me, “We initially reached out to the Stanley team simply as Stapleton residents who were excited when we heard the initial whispers about the Marketplace project. ark and the Stanley team were so warm and outgoing in their response that the conversation quickly grew into entrusting us to photograph the project’s progress and having From the Hip open our new studio storefront there.”

“Stapleton has proven to be a phenomenal place to live and raise our family. The neighborhood has so many hidden gems in terms of outdoor spaces. We love how bike and pedestrian-friendly the area is. The families here have all been extremely warm and welcoming, which has led to fantastic friendships for the adults and the kids in our household. It’s also a neighborhood that values its small businesses, and we’ve cultivated wonderful relationships with both individuals and other businesses within Stapleton.”

I asked a few more questions to get to know Danny and From the Hip Photo a little better.

So, when will From the Hip Photo open in The Marketplace?

“As soon as possible! We are finally through our permitting process and will begin our buildout within the next few weeks. Our goal is to officially open right around the new year. Whenever it happens, we’ll have a big party with lots of fun things to do. “

How long have you and Nina been in Colorado?

“Nina moved to Boulder when she came to the United States at the age of ten. We met in New York City where we were both attending college and then moved to Denver together just after New Year’s Day in 2007.”

What do you want to tell people?

“At From the Hip Photo, we are extremely proud that the individuals, families, and businesses who’ve worked with us have made us the best reviewed photographers in Colorado. We are pumped to collaborate with more of our neighbors in this terrific neighborhood and hope they’ll also join us for the workshops and special events we’ll be putting on in our new home at Stanley Marketplace!”

Stanley Marketplace is going to be the home of many fun, unique and local businesses. Each one of them has their own story and they will impact the community in different ways.
