This brave Texan can’t imagine living in any other state, and I have a feeling we will be happy to have her in the marketplace. The story of why Caroline Glover opened Annette Scratch to Table is a rich as the foods she serves. Her story is on her website, so I will let her tell you in her own words.

I CREATED ANNETTE FOR THREE SIMPLE REASONS

TO SERVE DINERS AS THOUGH THEY WERE GUESTS IN MY HOME.

TO MAKE A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN SHARE FOOD—AND TELL STORIES—THEY’LL REMEMBER.

AND TO PREPARE “SCRATCH-TO-TABLE” AND WOOD-FIRED FARE THAT

HONORS FOOD PRODUCERS, NOURISHES EATERS AND EMBODIES CRAFTSMANSHIP,

CREATIVITY AND RUSTIC SIMPLICITY.

I’VE COOKED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, AND THAT EXPERIENCE INFORMS WHAT YOU’LL FIND AT ANNETTE.

YET FAR MORE INFLUENTIAL IS THE WAY THAT I COOK IN MY HOME KITCHEN,

PREPARING SIMPLE, HIGH QUALITY FOOD THAT’S MEANT TO BE SHARED BY PEOPLE I DEARLY LOVE.

WHEN YOU DINE AT ANNETTE, I’LL ASK OF YOU THE SAME THREE SIMPLE THINGS

THAT I ASK OF MY FRIENDS AT A DINNER PARTY:

SIT. DRINK AND EAT. BE MY GUEST.

I asked Caroline what drew her to be a part of the Stanley Marketplace?

“Opening my first place is an incredibly exciting yet terrifying leap. Being in a marketplace full of other local, independent businesses gives me a sense of community that really helps with the terrifying part! It’s incredible to be surrounded by such strong business owners, and to see everyone help each other out so much. I also live in east Denver, so I love the idea of being near my home and adding to our growing neighborhood and community.”

Looking at that menu, we all want to know when this location will open?

We are hoping to open the second week of January– as the date becomes more firm we will be sure to get the word out! In the meantime, check out our website or check us out on Facebook to keep tabs on our progress and get an inside look at recipe testing!

I was curious about the name…I had to ask. Your name is Caroline, so where did the name come from?

Annette was my great aunt (we called her Netsie).

Netsie was a novelist and short story writer who lived in a small town in Texas.

She was known for always showing up with tamales and kolaches every Christmas Eve.

Someone asked me the other day if she was the person who taught me how to cook and I said,

“no, she was the person who taught me how to have an opinion”.

She was such an incredible, out spoken, and talented woman!

I dropped the hint about you being from Texas. So, you’re not a native, how did you end up in Colorado?

No, I’m not! I’m originally from Texas and my husband is from Basalt, Colorado. We met in New York City and migrated back to Paonia, Colorado in the spring of 2011. We then moved to Carbondale, then to Denver in 2014.  I can’t imagine living in any other state!

Is there anything specific you want your future customers to know?

We are so excited to create and serve locally sourced, wood fired food in a cozy

and comfortable atmosphere for the community.

Opening day can’t come soon enough!

Stanley Marketplace is going to be the home of many fun, unique and local businesses. Each one of them has their own story and they will impact the community in different ways.
